A bit about Movember (from the official Movember website): 

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer.

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

This was my first year participating in the Becel Ride for Heart bicycle marathon. I was asked by Chelsea Hutton, an avid cyclist, to participate. Am I ever glad I said yes.

Our 50km ride started out at 7:30 a.m. on the BMO field and continued out onto Lakeshore Blvd, followed by East on the Gardiner expressway. It was certainly strange to experience the typically traffic-filled city streets so quiet, swarming with cyclists instead of cars. The other cyclists and I were able to converse while riding as we took in the view of our amazing city. 

As we rode up the DVP I began to realize just how a steep a climb it was working my way up past each of the exits. We rode up to the York Mills turnaround point and then made our way back down to the Bayview and Bloor exit, made a small loop, rode back up the ramp onto the DVP and onto the Gardner, ending back at our starting point. It took me just over 2 hours to complete the 50km ride. 

One of the biggest highlights of my day was simply knowing how many others were out participating - individuals of all ages, fitness levels (some superfast professionals; some even rode the course the twice!) and families with their kids in tow. I even ran into one our customers, Enzo, along with his family, at the turn nearing York Mills.

All in all it was a great day. Thank you to all who have helped support me. A special thanks to Catherine who was a wonderful photographer, Dan Hutton, George Bibby, and Chelsea Hutton once again for encouraging me to participate and for setting the pace.

Even though the race is over, the donations can keep coming. The deadline for online fundraiser submissions is June 12th at midnight. If you haven't donated yet and wish to contribute to the cause, see my personal donation page.

I am riding in the Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart bicycle marathon on Sunday, June 5, 2011 to help save lives. I am hoping my fundraising efforts will also lead to earlier diagnosis, and breakthroughs in the treatment and recovery of all my friends and family members who have been impacted by heart disease and stroke.

I am participating in this event as it hits close to home; my father passed away over 30 years ago from heart disease. The technology has changed in 30 years but many people we know have been or will be affected by this disease.

E.U. Autowerks is also not exempt from heart disease. We are sad to say that we lost one of our beloved customers, Brian J Quinn, to heart disease in March. 

I am asking for your participation in helping me reach my goal of $1000.00. I will be riding to honour the memories of my father Alexander Abel Walsh, and both friend and customer, Brian J Quinn.

Don't forget that we are an authorized track inspection facility for all Porsche Club of America (PCA), Upper Canada Region (UCR), as well as Dexter Autosport track events, among many others. Dave Fry's winning 2006/08 Porsche 997 GT3 cup car is also now for sale on our Classifieds page. He will be running it one more time at Road America before he gives it up to it's next owner. If you have any interest in Dave's cup car, do not hesitate to contact him (his email is on our Classifieds page) or contact us directly as Autowerks is proud to have played a large role in the servicing and track prep for his car over the past few years.

David Fry's Porsche 997 GT3 cup car that is featured in our Racing & Development section was at the show; fully prepped by Courtney and our team here at EU Autowerks.

The black Porsche 996 twin turbo featured in the show belongs to one of our good customers. Details on the upgrades we have done to his car can be found in the Projects section.

A couple track events are taking place this weekend, such as CMP at Calabogie, Gerry Lowe at TMP and Kensai Racing at Mosport. Check out our 2010 Ontario Track Events Page for more details. Enjoy your weekend! We'll be back in the office on Tuesday.

The design brief the customer provided was:

1. Install the EVO4 near the vehicle's centre of gravity
2. Dash should be removable in less than 30 seconds with no tell-tale signs it was there; dash should not block real dash
3. GPS antenna should be part of the interior and should not require placement when the DAS is used
4. DAS needs to be switchable so that data does not get overwritten unintentionally 
5. USB cable needs to somehow be accessible but also hidden

We installed the head unit near the factory ECU in the space normally used for other factory electronics. We fabricated a dash mount that uses the factory cup holder and ran the wires up through the centre tunnel to ensure a clean installation. Finally, we installed a switch in the centre console alongside the USB cable.

The feedback we received from the customer: "the install is clean, looks factory and exceeded my high expectations; a truly first-class install". You can read more about the install and interior pics in the projects section.
